How Indian Hotels Qualify for MakeMyTrip Assured and Booking.com Preferred

What each badge actually requires, how the ranking levers really work, and the operational habits that keep a property qualified once it gets there.

Short answer: Badges are earned through measurable performance — content completeness, review score, cancellation and rejection discipline, competitive rates and commission tier — not through relationships. Fix operations first; the badge follows.

What the badges are for

Both MakeMyTrip Assured and Booking.com Preferred exist to reduce the platform's risk of a bad guest experience. Every qualification criterion is a proxy for "this property will not create a complaint".

Booking.com Preferred

The Preferred Partner Programme raises visibility in exchange for a higher commission tier. Typical eligibility signals:

  • A strong, recent review score.
  • High content completeness — photos, facilities, policies, room descriptions.
  • Low cancellation and no-show friction, and near-zero relocations.
  • Competitive availability: closed-out inventory hurts you more than a low rate.
  • Willingness to accept the elevated commission.

Genius is a separate lever — a discount programme for logged-in members that increases conversion. Treat Genius as a demand-generation cost and model it net of commission before enrolling every room type.

MakeMyTrip / Goibibo Assured

MMT's badge family (Assured, Value Stays, MMT Luxe and similar tiers) reads similar signals in a domestic context:

  • Verified property details and current photography.
  • Consistent guest ratings above the category threshold.
  • Booking-rejection rate near zero — this is the most common reason Indian properties lose the badge.
  • Rate and inventory competitiveness against the local comp set.
  • Participation in campaign and promo cycles.

The levers that actually move ranking

  1. Content completeness. Every unfilled amenity field is a lost filter match. Filters, not search, drive most OTA discovery.
  2. Photography. Twenty sharp, correctly ordered images with a strong hero beat forty inconsistent ones.
  3. Conversion rate. Platforms rank what sells. Anything that lifts conversion — clearer policies, honest room naming, price sense — lifts placement.
  4. Availability depth. Long closeouts and restrictive minimum stays suppress visibility beyond the closed dates.
  5. Review velocity. Recent reviews outweigh old ones. A structured post-stay review loop is a distribution lever, not a marketing nicety.
  6. Rejection and modification discipline. Every rejected booking is a scored failure.

What does not work

Buying ranking, expecting an account manager to "push" the property without underlying metrics, or discounting into the badge. Discounts that are not matched by content and service quality produce weak reviews, which cost the badge back.

Keeping the badge

Qualification is a rolling assessment. Weekly parity scans, monthly content refreshes, a review-response SLA and a hard rule of zero rejections are what keep a property qualified quarter after quarter.
