How to Choose a Hotel Revenue Management Company in India

Nine questions that separate a real revenue partner from an outsourced extranet clerk — plus the commercial terms and red flags every Indian hotel owner should check before signing.

Short answer: Choose on three things — who personally works on your property, whether the reporting is tied to profit rather than gross revenue, and whether the firm will show you a channel P&L net of commission. Everything else is packaging.

1. Who is actually on your account?

Ask for a name. Many firms sell a senior pitch and staff the work with a shared ticket queue. A revenue lead who knows your comp set, your wedding calendar and your worst-performing room type is worth more than a dashboard.

2. Is the engagement RMS-agnostic?

If a firm can only work inside one revenue management system, you are buying a reseller. Good partners work with your existing stack — IDeaS, Duetto, Pace Revenue, STAAH, eZee, Cloudbeds, Hotelogix — or with disciplined spreadsheets where a licence is not justified.

3. Do they report on GOPPAR, or only RevPAR?

RevPAR growth funded by 20% commission channels and stacked promotions can shrink profit. Insist on a monthly view that nets commission, payment fees and promo cost out of each channel.

4. Will they show a channel P&L?

Ask to see the format before signing. If they cannot produce net-of-commission contribution per channel, they cannot advise you on channel mix.

5. How do they handle rate parity?

Parity breaches are the single most common source of silent revenue leakage in India. A serious partner runs weekly parity scans across every live channel and maintains a dispute pipeline into each OTA's account manager.

6. What is the direct-booking plan?

Any firm that only manages OTAs is building your dependence on OTAs. Booking-engine tuning, Google Hotel Ads and metasearch should be part of scope from month one.

7. What are the commercial terms?

Fee-based retainers align better than a percentage of gross revenue, which rewards volume rather than profit. Look for a defined initial sprint (typically 90 days) followed by rolling monthly terms — long lock-ins signal weak confidence in results.

8. What does onboarding look like?

A credible first 90 days: revenue audit and comp-set map from 12 months of PMS data; listing and parity clean-up across every OTA; channel manager and pricing rules live; first full pricing cycle with weekly pace reviews; steady-state reporting.

9. What are the data and confidentiality terms?

NDA on day one, role-scoped extranet access, and no cross-property benchmarking without written consent.

Red flags

  • Guaranteed percentage lifts before seeing your data.
  • Fixed published pricing with no audit — scope cannot be known before the audit.
  • Claims of "partnerships" with OTAs that confer ranking advantages. No OTA sells ranking; they sell visibility levers you have to earn.
  • Reporting that never mentions commission.
